Hazel Wong, class of 2026
the sky was always the limit,
so i aimed for the tops of lampposts
on empty streets,
half covered by fog that a glow
seemed to almost pierce through.
‘you can grow a tiny bit taller,
and fly a little faster’
so if i launch myself high enough,
maybe i’ll reach the craters that
everyone else forgets about.
if i pretend that i’m fine, will i
feel better about things that seem
too far from my reach?
(i swear i’m)
not shy, just extremely anxious
and i do wish
time could move a little slower
so i can adore the sound of rain droplets
that dance across balconies;
watch them almost kiss
my shoulders and
leave my heart empty.
and the sky was always the limit
until you came along and
told me about cafes on saturn,
places in your imagination.
‘you seem to pierce through
everything that scares me,’
though i can’t begin to say it–
maybe one day i can
forget about everything else,
feel almost limitless.
Hi, I'm Hazel and I'm a sophomore at AHS ! This piece was mostly inspired by the days that I do nothing but stare into the open sky (the weather is rather lovely these days lol). I do hope it's enjoyable <33
