Beauty in the Struggle

Artist Statement (Elias Morales, class of 2027): To me, this piece is home, both figuratively and literally. I drew inspiration from my childhood home, memories, and ideas from my upbringing to guide me along with the message I wanted to convey to viewers. I came from a troubled neighborhood, surrounded by graffiti, gang violence, and poverty. Against all odds, I was able to make the best of what I was given and carve my own path, hence the center phrase, "Beauty in the Struggle". I hope that everyone that views this piece will be inspired to find the beauty in their own struggles and know that regardless of where they started, they are not restricted to what the world "expects" of them.
To my family, especially my parents,
Thank you for helping me blossom into the person I am today. You guys have given me the opportunity to reach my goals to the fullest extent and no matter how difficult things got, you guys still got up and showed me how to put one foot in front of the other just as you guys were doing. I love you all.
(P.S. sorry for all the windows my brothers and I broke as kids)
